Top Ten Tips To Help Your Car Pass The MOT Test

(Easy things you can check before you present your car for test)

  1. Make sure all the lights work, including speedometer illumination.
  2. Check the horn and screen washers work.
  3. Check wipers clear the windscreen, and check windscreen for damage.
  4. Check all fluid levels and tyre pressures.
  5. Make sure all seat belts are accountable, i.e., not underneath the rear seat, and check for obvious cuts etc.
  6. The minimum tyre tread depth is 1.6mm for the middle 3/4 of the tyre tread.
  7. Does the exhaust sound normal (no leaks).
  8. Make sure all doors, bonnet, tailgate, and fuel flap open and close correctly.
  9. Make sure the driver's seat adjustement works correctly, and locks (new regulation).
  10. New regulations have come in for air bags, tyre pressure monitoring systems, ESP systems, electronic steering locks from January and April/May this year (2012).
